Netflix to stream Ethiopian film Sankofa

An Ethiopian film about black resistance will start streaming on Netflix next week.
Sankofa, by director Haile Gerima, was first released to international acclaim in 1993 and now a 4K restoration will be released on 24 September on the streaming service.
The tells the story of an African-American fashion model named Mona at a photoshoot in Ghana, who is taken back in time and experiences slavery through the eyes of Shola.
Through this experience “Mona recovers and confronts her ancestral identity and experience”, whatsonetflix.com reports.
The film will be released in the US, Canada, UK, Australia and New Zealand from September.
