Eleven Malian soldiers killed in attack on convoy
Eleven Malian soldiers have been killed during an ambush on a convoy in the central Mopti region, the military says.
A statement said nine other soldiers were seriously injured when a car bomb was detonated and the convoy was then targeted with heavy gunfire.
A Malian officer described the attackers as terrorists – a term commonly used to refer to the jihadist groups linked to al-Qaeda and the Islamic State group.
Last week officials in Mali said more than 40 people were killed by suspected jihadists in several villages in the north of the country.
