Kenya suspends officers over deaths of two brothers
Two police officers have been suspended after two brothers died in custody after their arrest in central Kenya earlier this month.
The move follows public outcry by Kenyans online using the hashtag #JusticeForKianjokomaBrothers.
Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai said justice would be served “but this can only be done if we allow the proper due process that can stand a trial…”.
He posted the news of the suspension on Twitter on Monday:
The two brothers, aged 22 and 19 years, were laid to rest on 13 August.
They were on their way home on 1 August when the suspended police officers, who were enforcing curfew rules to limit the spread of Covid, arrested them.
