Morocco probes death of newly elected politician
The Moroccan authorities have ordered an investigation into the death of a newly elected regional councillor at his home.
Abdelouahab Belfqih died in hospital on Tuesday of gun wounds, the authorities said.
Investigators said there were early indications that the councillor killed himself.
He was elected in the 8 September regional elections and was poised to be appointed the president of the regional assembly in Guelmim-Oued Noun.
Regional elections in Morocco have previously witnessed high tensions.
The election of the capital Rabat’s mayor had been delayed on Monday for safety reasons.
