A man has been executed by firing squad in southern Somalia’s Jubaland state for raping his three-year old stepdaughter who later died of injuries.
The court session in Dhobley town that found 28-year-old Hussein Adan Ali guilty on Wednesday was broadcast on the regional TV station.
Traditional clan elders and court officials reviewed the evidence before their ruling.
According to the evidence, Ali had been chewing khat leaves, a mild stimulant, when he sexually assaulted the child.
It is not clear when the incident took place, but the judges said the girl had died on Wednesday.
The death sentence handed down is permitted under Islamic law.
